Life.registered principal, Darren Shaw

Life.Registered has been created by its’ Principal, Darren Shaw, as a logical and somewhat inevitable progression of a 20 year career in the IT business.

Darren was in the ‘right place at the right time’ in the early 1990’s while working for a boss when an opportunity to be involved in a ground-up and brand-new software development for the local Births, Deaths and Marriages office was too good to pass up.

Fast-forward 25 years and around 25,000 hours working with Civil Registries and Darren has come full-circle; recently resigning as CEO from the company he founded, grew and then sold to now starting his business focussing solely on what he enjoys most – Civil Registration.

The early years in the Registries taught Darren important concepts of Civil Registration that had been used for hundreds of years prior to the IT revolution that has engulfed the modern Civil Registration office. Darren learnt from wise Registrar’s with many years of experience. He has seen the changes to the modern Registry from a relatively sedate albeit important office to now being a vibrant environment with, however, many more expectations place on them. Certificates have moved away from being simple commemoration documents to now being the cornerstone to identity. The Registry that was once in the dusty basement, now offers vitally important information to demographers, epidemiologists, policy makers and policing authorities.

Life.Registered brings together 25 years of Civil Registration experience and 20 years of business experience into ‘the business of Civil Registries’.

Our experience has been gathered from Registries within Australia, US, UK, Pacific nations and Asia. We have worked directly with Civil Registries, through partners and consultants and via NGOs.

Technology, rightly, is seen as an essential component of all Civil Registries. However, technology alone does not make for a high-quality Civil Registry. Effective legislation, regulations, policies and procedures are very important, so too is ensuring cooperation (and often understanding) is forthcoming from other Departments and Government executives alike.

If you work within or provide services to a Civil Registry, or wish to better understand or connect to the world of Civil Registration, Life.Registered can help.

We only focus on Civil Registration. And after 25 years we have learnt a lot.

Please contact us via email, phone or Facebook to discuss your needs and our experience further. We would love to help.
